Officers Step In For Fallen Deputy During Father-Daughter Dance
Kirsten’s dad, Kent Mundell, died while on duty as a Pierce County Sheriff in Washington, USA, some six years ago.
Six years after his death, his daughter, Kirsten, married the man of her dreams in Bonney Lake, Washington. Angela Lyons, the photographer who captured the wedding dance on camera, was also touched by the moment. However, she was not alone as several officers stepped up to make her special day unforgettable.
Mundell, a deputy with the Pierce Country Sheriff’s office, was shot after attending a domestic violence call in 2009, KOMO News reported.
“It crushed everybody that knew Kent. Not just his family, but everybody that he knew and even people he met once or twice” Jones told KOMO. Don Jones, the family friend who walked her down the aisle, started it, and then it grew.
Kirsten’s family reserved an empty seat in the front row to pay tribute to her father.
“All of a sudden someone taps me on the shoulder and says, ‘Can I cut in?’ and I was shocked”. “Kirsten and her family are seeing them all and I know the kindness means a great deal”.
Lyons, the owner of Angela Lyons Photography tried to put into words what took place at the fallen deputy’s daughter’s wedding on her Facebook post. “I didn’t know how to react, how to respond”, Kirsten told KOMO. It had a thin blue line, that symbolizes so much in the law enforcement community.
Even the tough law enforcement officers were moved by the dance. ‘He said, ‘There’s a whole line of us, ‘ and right as he said that is when the next officer cut in and I just broke down’. According to Lyons, she was happy the photos turned out since everything was blurry because of tears in the face of such moving moments. “I can text, call, Facebook any of them, and I know they’ll be there to do whatever I need”. “There wasn’t a dry eye in the room”, Detective Don Jones, who was the first to dance with Kristen, told KOMO. “It was the best wedding surprise ever”, said Mundell.
