Hawkeyes Dancer Run Over in Winning Celebration
Now it’s probably pretty safe to say that the cheerleaders should be safe this week when you wouldn’t expect such a celebration when they take on a lesser opponent in the North Texas Mean Green.
“Either one of those could have brought be down for good”, McCarney said.
University of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz will meet with media Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. (CT) in the All-American Room in the Stew and LeNore Hansen Football Performance Center to discuss Saturday’s nonconference game against North Texas.
Eight seasons later, in the same stadium, McCarney was an assistant to Iowa coach Hayden Fry and watched roses fall from the sky.
“The coaches pulled me in and said ‘What would you think about being a lineman?’ I was willing to do whatever I needed to do to help the team, ” Hesse said.
Scott Reister has the story from Iowa City.
When asked if their relationship changed when McCarney coached the Cyclones, Ferentz said “Absolutely”. Ferentz has won 118 games in 17 years at Iowa and now has 68 wins against conference foes. “I’m glad we could capitalize on it”.
For Dan McCarney, Saturday’s trip to Kinnick Stadium will be a homecoming. “We are a mature team in that respect and the approach doesn’t change now”.
“It’s a new me”, Ferentz said. The Mean Green will be stuck in neutral, while Hawkeye QB C.J. Beathard deftly spreads the ball around to RB Jordan Canzeri and receivers Tevaun Smith and Matt VandeBerg. He said he was watching the clock while running to make sure he got down with time left. Iowa is one of four teams in the nation to have not allowed a rushing touchdown this season.
He played quarterback in high school at Waukon, Iowa, and was a linebacker until being shifted to the line during bowl preparations last season.
-FS Jordan Lomax (No. 155 overall, No. 5 free safety) – The senior made his presence felt throughout last Saturday night’s win over Pitt, finishing with 11 tackles. There’s a chance he plays Saturday against North Texas, but the coaching staff might hold Ott out to get him ready for Wisconsin the following week.
