Vyapam scam: 2012 medical student Namrata Damor’s autopsy reveals she was
Earlier, immediately after her death, police had registered a “murder” case in this regard and later termed the incident as a “suicide” and closed the case. On the Vyapam death trail, we broadcast from Ujjain, from the district hospital that declared Namrata’s death as murder.
Namrata’s body was found under mysterious conditions near the railway tracks on January 7, 2012.
Filing the closure report on Namrata’s case, police had preferred the same opinion while carrying out the investigation instead of the original post-mortem report which had suggested that Namrata might have been murdered.
What tormented the party today was a suggestion that the three-year-old death of an MBBS student was passed off as an accident although an autopsy indicated homicide. In Badkur’s report, he had treated it as a case of suicide and rejected the opinion of the three other doctors, Purohit (forensic medicine), Dr O.P. Gupta (medical officer) and Dr Anita Joshi (gynaecologist).
“The panel of doctors that conducted the post-mortem has never mentioned in their postmortem reports that it was a case of suicide”. Akshay was reportedly pursuing allegations that Namrata, a second-year medical student when she died, was among those who secured admission illegally in what came to be known as the Vyapam scam.
The police had also claimed the girl was in a relationship with one of the suspects Vishal Verma, who had also benefited from the Vyapam scam in 2009 by using an impersonator.
The case of mysterious death of Damor, an alleged beneficiary of the massive admission and recruitment scam, had got obscured with time, but was back in focus last Saturday when TV journalist Akshay Singh, probing the Vyapam scam, died soon after interviewing her parents. “A separate CBI inquiry should be ordered to look into all the deaths that have taken place”, Singh told media persons.
Ujjain District’s Superintendent of Police Manohar Singh Varma said, “We have ordered a review of the death of Namrata Damor”. On the other hand brother of Namrata Damore, Om Prakash Damore won a prolonged battle after the police has chose to reopen the case.
