Man jailed without bond after arrest in toddler’s death near Denver
Our sister station in Denver, KCNC, is reporting a 2-year-old boy who was reported missing on Monday at an apartment complex in Lakewood and later found in a container has died.
“The caller indicated that the child had been missing for about 10 minutes”, Steve Davis of Lakewood Police told the station.
Police talked to Morales yesterday and last night said his story didn’t match up, said Davis.
The toddler’s horrifying discovery came about 20 minutes after his family called police and went frantically knocking on neighbors’ doors, asking if they had seen the child.
They later found the toddler in the very apartment where he was supposed to be in the 2500 block of South Sheridan Boulevard. He arrived in critical condition and was declared dead at 2 p.m.
Davis says police are investigating but don’t know whether the incident was an accident or a crime.
Roman Morales, 21, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on investigation of first-degree murder Tuesday morning.
Morales made his first court appearance on Wednesday and was ordered held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court next week for a formal filing of charges.
