O’Brien can’t keep secret: Mallett to start
Houston coach Bill O’Brien said Thursday that Mallett will start for the Texans on Sunday at Carolina.
Hoyer was signed in the off-season after starting for the Browns previous year and beat Mallett for the job in training camp.
The Panthers say they are prepared for both quarterbacks – the strong-armed Mallett and the more mobile Hoyer.
“I’m just out there trying to do what I can do for the team”, Clowney said after the game.
The respect for Foster and Co. running the ball will keep defenses from constantly loading pressure on Houston’s quarterbacks, and with the QBs no longer needing to throw an absurd amount of times, the Texans’ pass-completion rate will go up. Carolina takes over on downs after the Texans elect to go for it on fourth-and-five at the Panthers 41-yard line.
In just one week, we’ve had a rather quick – but warranted – change at the quarterback position.
The NFL Network first reported that Mallett would start at Carolina. I felt good. It’s about preparation.
“I used to love the Panthers, Julius Peppers played there, all them guys, gamble was out there, I used to love their defense”, Clowney said. Have I read too much into Buffalo’s impressive week one win over Indianapolis, or are there other reasons to believe the Bills might be ready to start redressing the balance?
Since the turn of the century, Buffalo have beaten New England just four times in 30 attempts (one of which came in a dead rubber at the end of last season).
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw his support behind presidential candidate Donald Trump Wednesday, hours before the second Republican debate.
And you can’t help but root for the guy when he ran for a six-yard touchdown with 6:31 left in the 4th quarter, keeping the team fighting all the way to end. “Like I said after the game, it’s about preparation”.
From the sideline, Mallett had an excellent vantage point to diagnose what was going wrong with the Texans’ lackluster offense.
“You’ve got to prepare as the starter regardless of whether you’re the two or the three”, Mallett said.
“I’m not going to make a big quarterback announcement today,”O’Brien said during a Monday press conference”. In fact, this is exactly what I predicted for them. Clearly every National Football League franchise would have selected him first-overall in the 2014 NFL Draft with the same information that was available at the time, but it does sting to see him, along with the best player in the National Football League in J.J.
And the drops by the receivers were quite alarming – Mallett was putting the ball where it needed to be but receivers weren’t coming up to get it.
