If not meeting, Modi-Nawaz handshake in USA still a possibility?
He said that he will discuss about all outstanding issues including Kashmir issue at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
“The expectation of the people of both the countries is that Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif, are able to meet on the sidelines, as they are yearning for peace”, said Mr. Sayeed. “And in my view the sooner the two countries (Pakistan and India) start working on it, the better it would be for them”, he said, while talking to journalists in London.
The prime minister said the two countries made a decision to fight and eliminate the menace of terrorism from the region though enhanced cooperation and coordination, which, he said, would not only benefit the region but the whole world.
After the Delhi breakdown – when scheduled talks between the National Security Advisers (NSAs) were scrapped in August – Pakistan NSA Sartaj Aziz has told NDTV it is for India to decide whether it wants to initiate a meeting between him and NSA Ajit Doval in New York.
PM Nawaz, who stopped in London before going to New York to attend the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly, stated that Pakistan and the United Kingdom enjoyed close and cordial relations in diverse fields.
Sharif will also stay in the same hotel when he reaches New York on the evening of September 25.
While there has been no official announcement about any possible bilateral meeting, it is interesting to note that Modi and Sharif will be staying at the same hotel.
As the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly is nearing, the speculation is again mounting on whether the prime ministers of India and Pakistan will have a bilateral on the sidelines of the global gathering. Both the leaders are likely to stay in the same Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York.
