Darrelle Revis collects three turnovers, AFC defensive player of week
Darrelle Revis is still as good as it gets.
Revis played a huge part in keeping the Jets in control of their eventual 20-7 triumph over the Colts in Indianapolis, recovering two fumbles and posting an interception to end three consecutive midgame drives by the Colts. Coach Todd Bowles didn’t mention Revis in his daily briefing, which was conducted before the injury report was released. Look for rookie Nelson Agholor to draw Revis’ coverage for much of Week 3. September. But he also didn’t mention Revis when asked Tuesday on a conference call which players had been hurt Monday night – other than wide receiver Eric Decker, who exited the game with a knee injury. Bowles was not expected to address the injury until Thursday.
It’s possible Revis was given somewhat of a day of rest with the Jets on a short week, although if that was the official reason, Revis would be listed as having not practiced because of “not injury-related” reasons.
There were several other players who sat out in addition to Revis, Decker and Owusu, including guard Willie Colon (knee), running back Chris Ivory (quadriceps), linebackers Lorenzo Mauldin (concussion) and Trevor Reilly (infected finger), and cornerback Darrin Walls (hamstring). Owusu hurt his leg. I don’t know the severity of that one yet.
Meanwhile, although one-time starter Geno Smith returned to practice, the Jets do not have a quarterback controversy, at the top, anyway.
“We’ll see how he feels going forward”, Bowles said.
The former Cowboy, who signed a five-year, $42-million deal with the Eagles in March, has rushed for just 11 yards in his first two games with his new team.
The Eagles (0-2) also are dealing with a major injury.
