Man City ace Yaya Toure: The Arsenal ‘Invincibles’ will never be matched
After Juventus beat them 2-1 in the Champions League last Wednesday, the Hammers prevailed by the same scoreline, also at the Etihad Stadium.
Toure, who was speaking ahead of the Citizens’ League Cup tie against Sunderland on Tuesday, has set a target of playing every game this season for City, explaining it’s his way of trying to repay the club for their great support.
“The Premier League is always improving and this sequence in football, the Invincibles, it will never happen again in the Premier League“. Like West Ham, even Leicester, Stoke spending on players from Barcelona. Why rested? I look younger and I want to play more. “It’s hard, the Premier League, for sure”.
“What are we going to do?”
“We were shooting, I don’t know how many times, and I missed chances”, said Toure.
“I’m a competitor and, in football it’s all about being a competitor”, Toure said.
Toure, 32, endured a mixed 2014-15 campaign as City relinquished the crown to Chelsea while again struggling in Europe, with the Ivorian’s future the subject of much discussion following comments from his agent about a potential exit. What’s important is the last game of the season and whether you lift the trophy, or have lifted a couple of trophies.
Arsene Wenger’s winning title of 2003-04 went the entire season without defeat, a record which stretched to 49 games.
Fernandinho and Vincent Kompany now lead this season’s scoring chart for City with two goals apiece, but with the season still in its early stages Sergio Aguero still represents City’s biggest goal threat. He was injured a few days ago and now he is back and it’s not easy.
Despite the loss at the weekend, City remain top of the table after six games and Toure is generally pleased with how things have gone.
Reacting to their defeat, Toure admitted that his side started well but lacked extra efforts against West Ham, and insisted that they have to overcome this upset and comeback strongly.
