Giles blows save in 10th, Phillies lose 4-3 in 11
Jacob deGrom was hit hard during a rare dud at home against one of his favorite opponents, and the Miami Marlins stopped the New York Mets’ eight-game winning streak with a 9-3 victory Tuesday night.
Philadelphia manager Pete Mackanin had the dreaded interim label removed from his title Tuesday and he’ll try to improve to 2-0 as the permanent skipper when the Phillies visit the Miami Marlins on Wednesday in the second contest of a three-game series.
The Philadelphia Phillies tied the game in the eighth inning and took the lead in the 10th, but weren’t able to secure the win even with their closer on the mound. Perhaps Jason Heyward will win his third Gold Glove as the Phillies’ right fielder, and Ken Giles will go supernova in the bullpen, and Maikel Franco will crush his way into MVP debates, and Jeff Francoeur will also be there.
Asche, who has 11 homers this season, pulled an upper-deck shot to right in the fourth inning. Bour smashed his 19th home run of the season, and has his average at.260.
Since his first appearance in 2012, Koehler has been oddly non-dominant of the Phillies, allowing 20 ER, 42 H, and 12 BB in nine starts against them. The Marlins defeated the Phillies 4-3 in eleven innings. Harang (6-15) pitched seven innings, allowing two runs and seven hits.
Marlins: 3B Martin Prado (wrist) missed his fifth consecutive game, but the plan is for him to return before the end of the season….
“Just never really got in sync all night”, Marlins manager Dan Jennings said.
Dee Gordon brought home the winning run with a double, and it was the third hit of the day for him.
Aaron Altherr scored the Phillies’ first run after a successful double steal with Odubel Herrera as catcher J.T. Realmuto’s throw went into left field.
The Phillies continued to add to their lead in the seventh when Darin Ruf hit a homerun off Chris Narveson.
“Anytime we had something potentially going, we hit into a double play”, Jennings said. “Tonight he got the head out on that one ball and hit the two-run homer”. Galvis’ two-run single in the second extended the lead to 3-0.
“I had a nice meeting with them”, Acta said in an email to the AP, “but I need to respect the process and just be happy that I’m part of it”.
Jennings said the four double plays crushed his team, including one in the third inning that killed a bases-loaded opportunity.
