Man injured in shooting at Statesville elementary school
Investigators “are still tracing all events” that led to the shooting of Michael Andrew Callicut, 33, and no arrest has been made, Campbell said. Officials said he was in critical condition. Then minutes later the couple’s youngest child also went into the school.
Neither the children who were in the vehicle, nor any students at the school were injured, according to WBTV.
The woman’s husband was taken to the hospital. His injuries are not known.
According to Byers, a person has been taken into custody and was being questioned Tuesday afternoon.
WBTV’s Sky 3 was over the scene where police had taped off an area at an entrance to the school’s parking lot.
His estranged wife, whose name has not been released, was being interviewed by authorities.
Several evidence markers could be seen on the ground around the truck. The shooting was on school property, but was outside the school.
The couple has a student at the school, and the couple rode together over to the school, deputies said.
Some children on a playground less than 100 feet away heard the shooting and saw parts of what happened, deputies said.
Investigators have not released a possible motive for the shooting.
