Brewers pitcher Nelson still in hospital after liner to head
Star pitcher Jimmy Nelson, 26, was going about business as usual during a game against the St. Louis Cardinals on September 17, when he was struck in the head by a ball hit from home base by Tommy Pham, 27.
RHP Jimmy Nelson left the game after taking a line drive to the head.
Despite the initial concern when Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jimmy Nelson was hit in the head by a line drive Thursday, it appears the pitcher wasn’t seriously injured. Nelson crumpled on the mound and remained prone face down for about a minute. He was ushered into the Brewers clubhouse immediately, and whisked off to the hospital for Connecticut scans; fortunately, those showed that he did not suffer a concussion, though he did have a contusion, according to Brewers manager Craig Counsell.

“I think he escaped without any serious harm”, Counsell said after a 6-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Manager Craig Counsell said Garza likely would not return to the team this season. Nelson got to his knees and later stood up as Pham watched with a look of anguish. “We’re lucky and thankful that’s all it is”.
Counsell said he wasn’t sure whether or not Nelson would make his next scheduled start but fully expected the 26-year-old to pitch again before the end of the season.
‘I think we need to wait about 48 hours.
“We’re fortunate here. From what we saw, it’s a good result”. We need to give him a little bit more time, ‘ he said.
