Diddy tops hip hop rich list with $60m earnings
Rap legend Diddy (AKA Sean Combs, P-Diddy, Puff Daddy, or Puffy) was the highest earner in hip-hop over the past year, according to Forbes’ annual list of hip-hop cash kings.
His albums includes 2001’s “The Saga Continues” and 2010’s “Last Train to Paris”, and he’s working on a new record.
His earnings come mostly through his business projects, especially his venture selling French-made Ciroc liquor, the wealth magazine said.
Jay Z checks in at #2 on the list with earnings of a reported $56 million thanks to concerts with Beyonce and his work with Roc Nation and Armand de Briganc.
Aside from his newfound wealth via Apple, Dre executive produced the N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton”, (which has netted about $US160 million in the U.S. to date) and released an album that coincided with the film.
Claiming the third spot was Drake with $39.5 million.
Dr. Dre was No. 3 on the list, after making history in 2014 with $620 million. Endorsements from Sprite and Nike helped, but he was a relentless performer during Forbes scoring period, playing 50 shows with a nightly average gross of almost $1 million.
If you had to guess, you’d probably think Kanye West would be the rapper to top Forbes’ list of highest-paid hip-hop artists of 2015 because of his major visibility throughout the year and his deal with Adidas, but you’d be wrong.
The artist also also cashed out from his Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream clothing lines. Management, agent and attorney fees are not deducted. He remains in the middle of the pack earnings-wise partly due to his selectivity when it comes to endorsing products. The hip-hop mogul who constantly changes his name, Diddy, sits atop the list after raking in an estimated $60 million.
