Three women dead in Canada shooting
“The pattern that repeated itself over the years is that after reporting an assault (true or not) they would patch things up and Mary Ann recanted, either before trial or at trial”, the judgment said.
The last time Anastasia Kuzyk kicked her on-again-off-again boyfriend Basil Borutski out of her Wilno, Ont., home, she told an OPP officer: “I thought he was honestly going to kill me”.
A 57-year-old suspect, who has not been named, has been arrested by police in Ottawa, about 111 miles away.
Basil Borutski, the man charged with first-degree murder in the slayings of three women in eastern Ontario, has a criminal history that includes allegations and convictions of violent behaviour toward his ex-wife and former girlfriends.
Later that morning, police in Bancroft, Ont., discovered the body of 66-year-old Carol Culleton of North Gower, Ont. Police did not release the cause of death, nor indicate if the victims were known to one another.
The suspect’s brother, Will Borutski, says he and the rest of the family are shocked and in mourning for the three victims who all died Tuesday in separate incidents.
Police in Canada have arrested a man after a small town in Ontario was put into lockdown following reports of a shooting.
Several businesses and schools in Wilno were placed on lockdown while the search for the suspect was underway.
Extra security measures were also taken in Ottawa, as police announced the suspect may have headed to the city.
“There is a possibility he may be here”, said Ottawa police Const. Marc Soucy.
“They don’t want to compromise their investigation, but they’re operating in an environment where people are aware of what’s happening and they’re communicating with one another”, Greenberg said. Burchat said her husband was trying to return to be with her, but had been kept away by road closures as the police investigated the scene.
Johanna Zomers knew Kuzyk first as a server at the Wilno Tavern, then as her real estate agent. “We have our doors locked and when somebody comes to the door we open up for them”, he said. “Knowing that the person has been arrested, it’s a relief”.
