High school dance battle escalates quickly into full-on brawl
Well that went out the window as two rival high school drill teams went in on each other with a dance-off after a recent football game in Dallas, Texas over someone getting their hair messed up.
According to the news station, 15-year-old Shamyra Cooper was standing on one side of the field with the James Madison drill team when a member of the Wilmer-Hutchins dance squad walked over and began dancing.
“Impromptu dance-offs are not part of the approved performance for dance teams and fighting is never acceptable”, the Dallas Independent School District said in a statement viewed by the news station. Disciplinary actions will be taken as appropriate, ‘ the statement read.
A video taken shows a Madison High performer doing a routine in front of a dancer on Wilmer Hutchins’ team.
Cooper turns her back on her prancing rival in contempt, at which point the other girl swipes up Shamyra’s long hair and strikes her on the back of the head.
The football field was instantly filled with brawling dance team members and adults who joined in.
There were no injuries or arrests.
FOX 4 News – Dallas-Fort Worth Deshannon Roberts said her daughter Shamyra Cooper had her personal space disrespected.
The district also said none of the girls involved will be allowed to participate in upcoming performances at football games.
“I don’t think that was good in that it doesn’t set an example to our students because you have to stand up for yourself”, Roberts said.
If you’ve seen Step Up or You’ve Got Served, you know what a friendly dance-off is supposed to look like.
