Mass. man on bike trip found dead
Police say a cyclist on a trip from Massachusetts to Florida who was reported missing in the Knightdale area has been found dead. His body was found just west of Middlesex. They said his death appears to be from natural causes. “He went out of his way to Knightdale to get a new phone”, said his son, Ryan Moreau.
He had been checking in with family daily since leaving his North Attleborough home on August. 26, but has not been heard from since September 17, his family posted on Facebook.
Knightdale police worked with the phone company to determine the last location of Moreau’s new phone.
“They spent much of Wednesday searching the rural area and discovered his body and belongings in a shady spot not far from the road”, Bowman said in a press release.
Moreau’s family distributed his photo through social media and had stayed in touch with police during the search.
Richard Moreau, 66, a grandfather of six, was pursuing a lifelong dream of bicycling from Massachusetts to Florida when he disappeared. On Wednesday, his family tells ABC6 he was found deceased in a tent at his campsite set up in North Carolina. Investigators said foul play is not suspected.
