Police are investigating after an SUV carrying 15 passengers flipped on a highway in Edna during a police chase, killing 6 and injuring 7.
The pursuit endured under 10 minutes when the driver appeared to overcorrect the SUV, Chief Wooldridge said, making it flip more than a few times and launch a few inhabitants.
Six people are dead and two people were arrested after a police chase this morning in Edna, a town northwest of Victoria.
Five patients who were treated at Jackson County Hospital in Edna have been released to the custody of U.S. Border Patrol agents, hospital spokeswoman Donna Coleman said. It was unknown if either of the two was driving the SUV.
Officers have identified some of the victims as being from Honduras and Guatemala, according to the police statement.
Police are trying to determine who was driving the 2003 Ford Explorer when it crashed.
Police said the back seats of the SUV were folded down and removed so more people could fit inside the vehicle. Boss Wooldridge said in a meeting that more than 13 individuals were in the vehicle when officers attempted to force it over.
