Samsung Announce $99 Gear VR & Arriving November
The new, consumer-minded edition of the Samsung Gear VR is lighter and more comfortable, Koo said, and will be compatible with four high-end Samsung smartphones: The Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
Oculus also announced that the Oculus Arcade would be coming to the Gear VR at launch; the company has partnered with mainstream publishers like Sega, Warner Bros. and Namco. Secondly, the compatibility of the new Gear VR will be much wider and will work with any Samsung smartphone from 2015.
Samsung to Launch Dedicated VR Headsets in 2016?
The basic specs listed for the new Oculus Rift require at very least a GTX 970 or AMD equivalent to run.
Oculus has promised to deliver three separate presentations that will cover numerous aspects of its VR technology, and future plans.
Other highly anticipated games, such as a new title from Monument Valley makers Ustwo, are also planned for the device. There’s also something called Oculus Video, which will feature VR content from Alien Trilogy, Lionsgate, as well as Facebook’s 360 degree videos.
Oculus isn’t the only company building VR devices.
Following last year’s event, Oculus is holding another virtual reality developer conference.
I say the more VR solutions out there, the better for consumers and prospective customers, so hopefully the rumors are true, and Samsung is indeed working on releasing a dedicated VR headset in 2016.
