Nashville man’s plane lands on FL interstate
Commuters got quite the surprise Thursday when a plane had to make an emergency landing on I-595 during the morning rush hour.
Richmond, who’s been flying for six years bought the plane just a couple of weeks ago.
The pilot was the only person aboard the plane, and he wasn’t hurt. “That’s the biggest fear you have”, said Richmond.
A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration said the Piper PA-24 landed on Interstate 595 in Davie, Fla. around 7:50 a.m. Central Daylight Time.
In other media reports, Richmond described how fuel became an issue because he initially was called off from a landing at the Fort Lauderdale airport because of other traffic.
The FAA was on its way to investigate.
Florida Highway trooper Sgt. Mark Wysocky said.
The flight had come in from Greenville-Spartanburg worldwide Airport in Greer, South Carolina, and had been scheduled to land at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood global at 10 a.m., according to the FAA.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver, whose name hasn’t been released, wasn’t injured but his vehicle was damaged.
