Celta Vigo stuns Barcelona behind Iago Aspas, Nolito
Luis Enrique is ready for Barcelona‘s 100 per cent record in La Liga to come under severe threat from high-flying Celta Vigo at the Balaidos on Wednesday. But that stat started to “normalize” after Celta’s press eased up and Barcelona quickly started creating chances.
Things got worse for the European champions just four minutes later when an error from Pique allowed Nolito to play in Aspas, who remained calm before expertly clipping the ball over the helpless Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The loss away to Basque rivals SD Eibar will still rankle Valverde, as it was arguably the standout fixture for the Basque’s to win any game in the season so far.
Two goals by Iago Aspas helped Celta to a convincing victory over Barcelona and second place in the table, level on 13 points with Madrid after five rounds. Celta Vigo, on the other hand, are also enjoying a successful start of the season thanks to 3 wins out of 4 matches including their 2-1 victory over Sevilla at the weekend. However, Celta Vigo dominated the contest – particularly in the opening 45 minutes – taking a well-earned and fully warranted 2-0 lead into the half-time break.
Fernando Tissone’s 71st-minute own-goal was enough to secure all three points for the Yellow Submarine, who won their fourth league game in a row. Felipe Melo scored the game’s only goal in the 56th minute as the Nerazzurri claimed a fifth win from five matches this season.
No one got near Iniesta as he danced through the Celta defence and found Messi, but his clipped shot hit the post and bounced to safety.
“If we take it easy Celta will be all over us and so we have to be at our best to have a chance”, he insisted. It was even more save four minutes later when Nolito sprung Aspas again and the forward again beat ter Stegen. In the 58th minute, Munir El Haddadi subbed on for Roberto.
Leo Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez are all short-odds savers in the anytime scorers market for Barca while four goal Nolito tempts as a 2/1 anytime scorer for the hosts.
Barca’s former Celta coach Luis Enrique said: “They are one of the most entertaining teams to watch”.
Neymar gave Barca a glimmer of hope but it was extinguished when John Guidetti hammered home from close range after Hugo Mallo’s cross.
