Gators suspend Treon Harris, Jalen Tabor for Tennessee game
This season, Grier has completed 67.9 percent of his passes for 440 yards, four TDs and two interceptions, while adding 114 yards rushing and two TDs.
Tabor’s suspension cuts down on Florida’s secondary depth.
Tabor was a starter in the first two games this season but a backup last week in Florida’s win over Kentucky.
Sources close to Bob Redman of Fightin’ Gators have confirmed that sophomore cornerback Jalen Tabor will be suspended for the game versus Tennessee on Saturday. “It hurts. We have a lot of guys who [care] about this team”.
During Week 1, Harris started and recorded two touchdowns for 215 yards.
Harris started Florida’s 2015 opener against New Mexico State, passing for 215 yards and two touchdowns, but split time with redshirt freshman Will Grier during the Gators’ 61-13 win.
They are the fourth and fifth Florida players suspended this season, joining defensive end Alex McCalister, receiver Latroy Pittman and safety Marcus Maye.
“He’s going to have an opportunity to run the ship”, McElwain said about Grier. “You know what, some other guys will step up and play”.
Harris also played a key role in that game, coming off the bench to direct both the Gators’ scoring drives in relief of ineffective starter Jeff Driskel.
Tabor’s absence is likely to result in Florida playing corners Vernon Hargreaves III and Quincy Wilson nearly exclusively in outside positions against Tennessee.
Tabor has 10 tackles, one interception with a return for 39 yards and four pass breakups so far in 2015. He did not play last week against UCF. The first one was set up by Tabor, who sacked Justin Worley, knocked the ball loose and recovered the fumble at the Vols 30.
