Newly Discovered Supermassive Black Hole –“Defies Theories of Galaxy-Size Limits”
This means that the black hole is about thirty times larger than expected for the size of the galaxy.
The outlet says the black hole which is located in a region of the galaxy’s core called Sagittarius A* or Sgr. The confirmed findings of a massive black hole in this galaxy have created an incredibly bright object made from the accretion of gas, what is known as an active galactic nucleus (AGN).
The new study was published online this month in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
The studies then state that the black hole within the SAGE0536AGN is 350 million times the mass of the Sun, and the galaxy’s mass obtained through measurements of the movements of its stars is calculated at 25 billion solar masses – the figures coming to 30 times more than its initial expected size.
In a discovery that has left astronomers and space scientists looking to the skies, a recently discovered galaxy, titled SAGE0546AGN that is about 2 billion light-years from our planet, contains at its heart, a supermassive black hole that is far bigger it should be, reports the pressroom at RAS.
That’s what happened in England, where researchers at Keele University and the University of Central Lancashire had to throw their expectations out the window after measuring the impossibly large size of a black hole at the center of a newly discovered galaxy.

Black holes are so freakish, they sound unreal. “This one though is really too big for its boots – it simply shouldn’t be possible for it to be so large”, said Dr Jacco van Loon, an astrophysicist at Keele University and the lead author on the new paper.
In fact, as mentioned, the researchers are seriously thinking that this galaxy might be the first in a new and quite peculiar class of galaxies that hasn’t been documented yet. The degree of broadening implies that the gas is moving around at high speed, a result of the strong gravitational field of the black hole.
As for why the black hole is as big as it is when compared to its home galaxy, the scientists think this is because, at some point, SAGE0536AGN stopped growing or at least grew at a slower pace while the black hole went on to gorge on material and so got bigger and bigger.
