Hanley Ramirez hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning and the Red Sox beat the Houston Astros, 5-4, Sunday at Boston.

Boston rookie left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez struck out eight over five innings, allowing one run, six hits and walking two.

His counterpart, Justin Masterson (3-2, 5.58 ERA), lasted only 3 2/3 innings before the rest of the workload was handed over to his bullpen. Red Sox 3, Astros 1.

“I could throw just about any pitch I wanted to today. It doesn’t happen often like that, ” he said.

On Sunday, Ramirez served as the team’s DH with Ortiz playing first and a struggling Mike Napoli on the bench. After the second inning, I felt like I was going to have good command of my fastball on both sides of the plate.

“The railing’s still up, ” Farrell joked. “He’s fearless”.

“Everybody went nuts, ” Hanigan said of the homer.

Finally it seems as though the Red Sox are playing like they were supposed to, even without their three-hitter, Dustin Pedroia, who is nursing a strained right hamstring while on the 15-day disabled list.

Astros: RHP Scott Feldman, sidelined since May 27 after right knee surgery, was expected to make a rehab start for Double-A Corpus Christi on Sunday night.

It was a rare day of frustration for Houston, which entered on a five-game winning streak and only 14 hours after a 12-8 comeback victory Friday night in 10 innings.

The lead wouldn’t hold as the Astros finally got to Rodriguez in the 4th inning with a walk and two singles that scored Luis Valbuena. What could have been a big frame led to just the one run on a Ryan Hanigan base hit.
