Hungary says no plans for referendum on 2024 Olympic bid

Scott Blackmun said Boston’s bid failed because it was not immediately supported by residents.

Blackmun said Boston was appealing as a bid city because of university sport facilities, a network of worldwide influencers educated in Boston, and because “it is a hub of technology, innovation and medicine”. Four-time Olympian, Janet Evans, has been named the Vice Chair of the Athletes Commission for Los Angeles’ 2024 Olympic bid.

The USOC picked Boston in January, dumped it in July, then re-upped with Los Angeles earlier this month.

In the short span since Boston 2024 ended, Los Angeles has picked up the torch, reigniting a bid that the 1932 and 1984 hosts had thought was gone forever when the USOC chose the New England city in January. The global Olympic Committee will award the games in 2017. Evans’ appointment signifies the bid’s commitment to keep athletes at the core of its overall bidding strategy, according to Wasserman.
