Kermit Needs trousers According to Latest insane One Million Moms’ Campaign
The ABC revival of “The Muppets”, scheduled to premiere tonight as part of the Alphabet Network’s new fall prime-time lineup, finds itself in the crosshairs of a family values group.
“It was the usual laundry list: put the lid down, closing the refrigerator door”, Miss Piggy said. And it’s not just backstage; the Muppets’ personal lives are featured as well, like Fozzie meeting his girlfriend’s parents for the first time.
There’s also not quite enough affection in the writing for some of the characters – particularly Miss Piggy, whose fundamentally performative, mock-European vanity has been transformed here into her being a genuinely sour, mercurial jerk.
Of course, the ABC show has not been shy about teasing it as a more mature show, with most promos being about the breakup of Miss Piggy and Kermit and Miss Piggy’s consequent dating habits.
Overall, I like, don’t love, THE MUPPETS (though I loved the ten minute video).
On its website, the group urges parents to forward the message that “The Muppets” is a betrayal of the family show of the 1970s and 1980s.
Done in the style of The Office, The Muppets is a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Miss Piggy’s late-night talk show.
“It’s sort of an adult Muppet show”, Kermit said during one promo.
Things took a turn for the worse when the TV presenter brought up the amphibians’ new girlfriend Denise, and it’s clear he has a type as she’s also a pig.
“I want to be able to sit and watch with my 8-year-old and we would both enjoy” it, Prady says.
Needless to say, this is a delicate tightrope to walk, as ABC works to attract adult fans who have fond memories of The Muppets along with kids interested in checking out the shenanigans.
“The Muppets“, which aired at 8 p.m. Tuesday, earned solid ratings in its premiere. In the past the group has petitioned against Becoming Us, a documentary about gender transition, the reality show Sex Box and a screening of Pretty Woman.
