‘Empire’ season 2: Wait for TV’s hottest show is nearly over
One familiar face that “Empire” fans will be seeing more of next season is Serayah, who is back to reprise her role of Tiana, Hakeem’s (Bryshere Y. Gray) love interest.
According to Billboard, the one-hour episode for season 2 outperformed other shows when it premiered last Wednesday.
The Season 2 premiere is titled “The Devils are Here”, and TV Guide teases Empire spoilers that the action picks up three months after Lucious Lyon’s arrest. Meanwhile, Lucious, feeling extra pressure from a bloodthirsty prosecutor, hires a new lawyer (guest star Andre Royo) and records an epic track from inside jail. We’ve seen this clip before in previous trailers but this new sneak peek gives us a more in-depth look at the ex-couples conversation. “The second he gets the opportunity, Jamal will bust out of his corporate chains because Jamal is an artist at heart and he is really suffering under the burden of responsibility”, she said. And in the final clip called “Say What?”
The Lyon family will return to the small screen when “Empire” premieres on Fox.
I’ve always been somewhat uncomfortable with “Empire” because Terrence Howard stars as Lucious, a violent, homophobic guy who treats women badly.
But the most shocking part of the episode came when [SPOILER ALERT] Frank Gathers (Chris Rock) showed up and – after convincing Cookie‘s cousin to sell her out – sent Cookie a decapitated head in the mail! We need to know, how did it change her? In the first episode, Cookie may have awakened Jamal’s inner Lucious.
Emmy nominee Henson shares that one way Season 2 is moving forward is by looking at Cookie’s past, particularly her incarceration. Thus, when the dust settles and Cookie is licking her wounds from losing the major play she’s not ready for Jamal to kick her out of his life.
In an interview with TVLine, Chaiken said Mimi will appear on five episodes this season and the storyline will play out in a very interesting way.
This is Fox’s highest-rated season premiere for a scripted show since House in 2009.
“Empire” Season 2 begins September 23 at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
