Prince’s William and Harry join DIY SOS veterans street

He and his brother, Prince William, have pitched in as part of the BBC television series DIY SOS, which turns several empty properties on a derelict street into liveable homes for ex-service personnel.

He said: “I’m a builder in my day job but I used to be in the forces in the Royal Corps of Signals, and I made contact with DIY SOS when they came to Cheltenham to help Scot Jones”. She was well chuffed with Harry.

The redevelopment will see a support centre on the street, to be run by Walking With The Wounded and the Royal British Legion to assist ex-servicemen and women with retraining and on-site support for those who have been injured – mentally or physically – while in the Armed Forces.

Vista’s Managing Director Keith Sadler said: “To see the Royal Brothers Prince William and Prince Harry leading by example and getting their hands dirty just proves what a worthwhile cause this has been”.

An incredible eight buildings and 62 house facades have been refurbished as a suitable location for returning soldiers in need of a helping hand. “I think she is going to leave me!”

He said: “He thanked me and said well done”.

He later told an ex-serviceman on site he had to go and give William’s painting a re-touch because it was not “very good”.

The royal brothers swapped their princely duds for fluorescent vests and hard hats today. “Well played to them as well”.

The BBC show’s host Nick Knowles said: “It’s been really lovely”.

The project has enabled him to get a specially-adapted home and he told Harry and William of the “opportunities” that it would bring for himself and his family.

He added that he asked William who he would be supporting in the rugby to which he replied “Wales” yet said his brother would be supporting England.
