Sam Smith’s Theme Song For SPECTRE Released
This morning, Smith released “Writing’s on the Wall“, the new theme song for the upcoming 24th James Bond film “Spectre”. If only Smith and co-writer Jimmy Napes had lightened up, stepped out of their well-trodden comfort zones and employed a bit more fun with their mission.
“I have been dreaming of this moment for a long long time”, the British singer wrote on Twitter. With this song I don’t care about it charting and things like that. It went up for sale today (September 25) as a standalone digital single.
Spectre – starring Daniel Craig as Agent 007, in the 24th film in the franchise – hits theaters on November. 6. “Sam Smith’s may put me to sleep”.
Gosh, Sam Smith sure does have a purty voice.
The In the Lonely Hour creator’s song starts off like a black-and-white big picture movie, a ideal set up for a super spy like Bond.
In a promotional video for the song, the 23 year old Londoner said: “This isn’t about me, about my life”.
The ballad’s predictably dramatic with lyrics that include “How do I live?”
The “Stay With Me” singer joins a legendary roster of artists who’ve recorded Bond theme songs, including Paul McCartney, Shirley Bassey, Adele and Madonna.
The song debuted on Friday (25Sep15) to mixed reviews, with some fans praising its “haunting” qualities while others branded it the “worst Bond theme ever”. When you’re not here I’m suffocating. If you must, listen below and call me when Idris Elba is cast as Bond.
“It’s a flawless combination of Sam meets Sam”, he said.
Sometimes, James Bond films don’t have theme songs so much as gently crooned CVs, letting you know what Bond’s good at (shooting people!) and how he’s feeling (conflicted!).
