Gyllenhaal, Cumberbatch to star in ‘The Current War’?
THE CURRENT WAR has gone through different iterations over the years and has attracted any number of different filmmakers and/or actors. That may sound like a fantasy for fans of Jake Gyllenhall (Southpaw) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), but they are indeed both in talks to join the cast of The Weinstein Company’s The Current War. Everyone is aware of the fact that Thomas Edison is considered to be the father of Electricity and how his beliefs that power should be delivered via direct current was favored by all.
If the deal makes, Gyllenhaal will play George Westinghouse, while Cumberbatch takes on the role of Thomas Edison. Cumberbatch now stars in Lyndsey Turner’s production of Hamlet in London’s West End.
Wanted and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter’s Timur Bekmambetov, who at one time was planning to direct The Current War himself, is now set to produce the project alongside Garret Basch and Steve Zaillian. He can now be seen in the adventure drama EVEREST. The plan is for Gomez-Rejon to make Current War his next film after directing the Will Smith starrer Collateral Beauty, which will shoot in the fall. He also just debuted his new film, the drama/comedy DEMOLITION, at this month’s Toronto worldwide Film Festival to great critical acclaim, and he’s attached to the fact-based crime drama THE MAN WHO MADE IT SNOW for director Antoine Fuqua.
