It’s come to this: McDonald’s unveils its first organic burger
McDonald’s isn’t famous for serving up healthy diet options, but selected outlets in Germany will be offering organic hamburgers on a trial basis from October this year.
The move, which could be a testing ground for a more permanent menu add, underscores a turnaround unfolding at the hamburger chain, traditionally a global purveyor of greasy burgers and fries that spawned the 2004 hit “Supersize Me”, in which director Morgan Spurlock spends a month eating exclusively McDonald’s food.
The push beginning with the globe’s main establishment string by funds may come as it is often redecorating food-sourcing habits as new Chief Executive Steve Easterbrook’s attempt to change McDonald’s right into a “advanced, innovative slice of pizza enterprise”.
The cattle are raised on GMO-no cost feed in open pens with access to the outdoors, according to the organization.
The “McB” combines an organic meat patty with Lollo Bionda lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, red onion rings, Edam cheese, various sauces and a dark bread.
McDonald’s first 100% organic-beef burger goes on sale next week when the “McB” joins the chain’s menu in Germany.
The second is made with sunflower seed buns, arugula salad, Maasdam cheese, red onions, tomato and a spicy sauce.
The organic burgers will be sold in Germany between October 1 and November 18.
The beef comes from organic farms in Germany and Austria. Reportedly McDonald’s has also pledged to transition to using so-called “sustainable” beef by 2016.
