Susan G. Komen Chicago’s 2015 Lombard Race for the Cure® Celebrates Survivors
The South Dakota Race for the Cure raises significant funds and awareness for the breast cancer movement, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. The event benefits the Bobetta Lindig Breast Care Center at Memorial Hermann-Memorial City.
“Through our research efforts, we’re working to improve long term effects so people have better outcome with breast cancer”, Ellen Zahariadis with the Susan G. Komen Foundation said.
Komen Race for the Cure kicked off Saturday morning.
In addition to donations, organizers of the race have a fundraising goal of $200,000 dollars.
High-school sophomore, Ashleigh Hughes of Palos Park, performed “Hero”, by Mariah Carey, to honor the more than 250 breast cancer survivors in attendance. Komen Chicago recently awarded over $1.05 million to 14 organizations for 2015. It will go toward breast cancer research, education and screening programs throughout the area.
