Ladies! One beer a week keeps heart attack risks weak
A 32-year longitudinal investigation of drunkenness in Swedish women unearths several interesting great ideas.
When the study ended in 2000 the women were between 70 and 92 years old. Researches found that 185 of the women had suffered heart attacks, 162 had suffered strokes, 160 had developed diabetes and 345 had developed cancer since the original study. For example, not only do certain beers contain essential B vitamins, including vitamins B6 and B12, riboflavin and folate, but they also provides as much silicon as whole grains and vegetables, according to the Daily Mail.
After 32 years, the women were re-surveyed.
And what’s the relationship to drinking?
On the other hand, those who drank spirits more often than once or twice in a month had 50 percent higher risks of being diagnosed with and dying from cancer, compared to women who drank less.
Good news for all the women who enjoy their weekly drinks with their girlfriends! Drinking at this frequency increases the risk of cancer by 50% as compared to those who drink less frequently.
More precisely, the scientists say they documented a 30% lower risk of heart attack among the study participants who were in the habit of drinking beer once or twice a week, or even once or twice a month.
Co-author of the report, Dr Dominique Hange, from the University of Gothenburg said in a statement: “Previous research also suggests that alcohol in moderate quantities can have a certain protective effect, but there is still uncertainty as to whether or not this really is the case”. The researchers substantiated their findings by checking their results against other risk factors for cardiovascular disease but they were not able to confirm if moderately consuming wine has the same effects offered by beer or spirits.
The moral of the story, as far as the study concludes: Moderate consumption of beer seems to protect women from heart attacks.
So for those who can imbibe a bit, cheers to preventative medicine!
