Eyes to the sky: Rare supermoon eclipse
According to NASA, a supermoon will combine with a lunar eclipse on september 27.
A total lunar eclipse will be visible across San Diego County on Sunday when the moon moves into Earth’s shadow on what’s expected to be a warm and clear fall evening.
At 10:11 p.m. Sunday, the moon, Earth, and sun will be lined up, with the Earth’s shadow totally obscuring the moon.
He said that when at perigee, the moon is about 31,000 miles closer to Earth than at apogee. This light takes on a reddish colour, hence the term Blood Moon.
Since the orbit of the moon is not a flawless circle, there are times when the moon is closer to our planet. And he didn’t even know it, but LeBron James was exactly two years from being born. It will then appear with a red tint, known as a blood Moon, as only red light reaches it, a phenomenon which is common during a total lunar eclipse.
The Supermoon/Eclipse combination hasn’t happened in 32 years and won’t happen again for another 18 years.
Weather permitting, the large red moon will be visible across the whole of Britain from 1.10am BST on Monday morning.
This time around, viewers looking from the Americas, Europe, Africa, western Asia and the eastern Pacific Ocean will have a chance to see the show.
Even though the moon is totally in the Earth’s shadow, there is a little sunlight that bends around the Earth’s atmosphere. It is actually three different events rolled into one, and it will be hard to ignore the moon in the sky this weekend.
