Brunner Ready To Move Forward with Bid for Missouri Governor
Eric Greitens, the former Navy SEAL and author, is set to formally announce his gubernatorial candidacy Saturday, in a big St. Louis event that is going to grab a lot of attention.
Greitens played up his political inexperience while criticizing government during an announcement in the St. Louis suburb of Maryland Heights. “They have produced nothing for us by embarrassment and failure”. He’s a founder of the nonprofit group The Mission Continues, which connects veterans with volunteer work to ease the post-military transition.
“We have no regrets but must bring the campaign to its end”, said Asbury in a statement. Bob Dixon, R-Springfield; and state Rep. Bart Korman, R-High Hill.
Brunner, the wealthy businessman who lost in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in 2012, technically is still operating under an “exploratory committee” that doesn’t specify what he might be running for now.
In terms of fundraising, Asbury was trailing behind other candidates hoping to replace Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon, who was barred from seeking re-election because of term limits.
Attorney General Chris Koster – a former Republican who switched parties as a state senator in 2007 – is the only Democrat who’s said he intends to seek the state’s top executive office.
But, it was the fight against corruption in politics that made him raise his voice the loudest, delivering a stern warning for those who’d dare to break the public’s trust under his watch as governor, “I will defeat you”.
