Man shot dead in ‘broad daylight’ on busy east London street
A man has been shot dead in a street in Hackney in east London on Saturday afternoon, BBC reported.
Passers-by “jumped to the ground and scattered” as the gunman shot the victim.
Police say they were called at 1:14 pm today (26 September) to reports of gun shots on Chatsworth Road.
Police and an air ambulance were quickly on the scene, however the man died from his injuries.
An investigation has been launched by police into the fatal shooting and a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out.
One eyewitness told the Evening Standard: “I’ve never been so scared for my life…” Officers arrested a man in his 20s close to the scene, on suspicion of murder.
Roads around the area have been closed.
The dead man’s next of kin have yet to be informed.
No arrests have yet been made an inquiries continue.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan police said: “The homicide and major crime [units] are in the process of being informed”. Local road closures are in place.
