Florida woman arrested for ‘riding’ on sea turtle

“During the course of this investigation, officers encountered a subject with an active felony warrant”, the Melbourne Police Department posted on Facebook, along with a photo allegedly showing Moore hunched over a sea turtle.

Reporting the charges on their Facebook page Melbourne Police department stated: “In early July 2015, two females were seen in photographs where they appeared to be sitting or riding on sea turtles”.

On Saturday, Melbourne police responded to a disturbance in the 600 block of Espanola Way.

Hochberg said he was glad to see authorities enforcing the laws and hoped Moore would get a punishment that would “sting a bit” and perhaps inspire her to advocate for the turtles.

If you have to know one thing about Florida, know this: it is not okay to mess with the turtles. Police said Moore was one of two women involved in the incident. However, police have yet to identify the second woman.

She was wanted on a warrant for disturbing the turtles.

“I was hoping that some justice would be served, because if they didn’t do anything at all that sends out that very wrong message to a lot of people”.

The state wildlife fee protects the state’s 5 species of marine turtles, which officers say are weak because of unlawful harvesting, habitat encroachment, and air pollution.
