Recall Alert: 2011-2012 Hyundai Sonata
At the time, the Sonata was Hyundai’s top-selling vehicle in the U.S.
Subject to the recall are the Sonata midsize sedans produced between 2011 and 2012, according to the reports. This will produce a metallic, cyclic knocking noise from the engine and could possibly cause engine failure, resulting in a stall and increasing the risk of a crash.
Meanwhile, 99,500 Accents are being recalled to check on faulty brake switches. That process was changed to a high pressure wet blasting system in April 2012. The cars are equipped with 2-liter or 2.4-liter diesel engines. But NHTSA told the company it was concerned about the possibility of high-speed stalling. According to Kia spokesperson Jame Hope, Kia is not impacted by this recall.
To fix the issue, Hyundai dealers will inspect and replace the necessary engine components. Hyundai also says that it will boost warranty protections for the engine sub-assembly on all affected vehicles to 10 years/120,000 miles.
Owners will be Novembernotified . 2, and they’ll get a second notice when parts are available.
The recall affects Hyundai Accent vehicles built between March 1, 2009 and February 11, 2011.
