“The fact that a child could die from the lack of access to a.30 cent immunization is the most extreme form of poverty”, Global Director of Programs at the Global Poverty Project, Justine Lucas, explained ahead of today’s events, according to PIX 11.
The fourth annual Global Citizen Festival is about to kick off in New York’s Central Park.
The U.S. first lady encouraged the audience to use social media to campaign on behalf of the estimated 62 million girls worldwide who are not in school.
Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway, one of the world’s top donors, said that the festival should serve as a catalyst for a “massive increase in educational funding”. She said “I see myself in these girls”.
“It is a e-book and a pen that may change the life of a toddler – it isn’t a gun”, Yousafzai added. “It was a gun that hit me on the left side of my forehead, it was a gun that hit my two friends, but it wasn’t a pen”. Stephen Colbert and Hugh Jackman also are making an appearance.
Backstage was just as star-studded: Everyone from Daniel Craig to Jay Z – holding daughter Blue Ivy – was there.
Beyonce’s set was the most high production, so when she invited Ed Sheeran back to the stage, it was a stark contrast to the rest of her set.
The “Drunk in Love” duet was not the first time that Sheeran and Beyonce shared the stage.
