Skyhawks Marching Band takes home awards
The sixth annual festival is a fundraiser for the Legacy High School Marching Band and will feature 26 bands from across Colorado and one from New Mexico. the Legacy band will perform but will not compete.
The Franklin Band, four-time state marching band champion and 2014 recipient of the prestigious Sudler Shield Award, will host the first ever Sonic Boom! For more information, call 925-779-7550.
It was also a mentoring opportunity for the students, to enhance the culture of the band.
Brueggen is in his fourth year as band director at Clinton High School; his seventh year teaching. The uniforms were donated by Naperville Central High School’s band program who were looking for a place to donate the gently used uniforms.
“It was a great experience for them”, Brueggen said. “We take that assessment and make ourselves better from that”. The band then receives a recording containing the judges’ remarks.
For the last 14 years, Gage has mostly taught band at the collegiate level, including at William Paterson University.
The school was on a very tight timetable in getting the performance ready for the fall. District leaders feel that this is a great start for the group’s first competition of the season.
Gage said that everyone was optimistic about the upcoming season, noting that there was also a lot of hard work ahead of the band.
