Finally, Finally, Finally Your Kid’s Dolls Can Get Their Periods
In a move to educate young girls about menstruation, a company responsible for the Lammily Doll, which alleges to be the only “real” Barbie-type doll with average body proportions, is marketing what they call a “period party package”.
That performance would scare any reasonable woman into a premature hysterectomy, presumably making the Lammily doll, with her wee pads and underwear, seem super fun!
A video promoting the Lammily Period Pack is reminiscent of the cringing embarrassment that often accompanies menarche, the first period, which is typically regarded as the central signal of puberty. Her pads are brightly colored with fun prints that could possibly make human women excited about their periods.
And now, Lammily is getting her period.
According to the commercial above, featured in a Time article, Lammily creator Nickolay Lamm has bestowed a tremendous educational gift upon both parents and daughters alike.
Lamm told Post in 2014, “I feel that, right now, dolls are very “perfect” looking, when, in real life, few of us have flawless skin”.
There’s also a calendar and little dot stickers to help keep track of the doll’s period cycle, says Nickolay Lamm, founder of the Lammily line. “What can be more disarming than a doll having menstruation?”
Lammily made her debut past year complete with a sticker pack that featured pimples, moles, cellulite and scars that can be put on the doll.
“Menstruation is still a taboo in our society”, Mr Lamm said.
“There’s nothing fundamentally bad about it, I’m just not sure whether it’s necessary to purchase something like that for little kids who just want to play and have lots of fun and imagine life from their perspective at that age”.
