Sam Smith Bond Theme In Full
And though “Writing’s On the Wall” is no “Skyfall“, James Bond is about reinvention and we’re happy Smith didn’t try to follow in Adele’s footsteps.
Perhaps there’s something telling about Smith’s boast that it took him 20 minutes to write: the result feels less like a Bond theme song than a latterday pop ballad – the kind of thing that X Factor contestants have a crack at – with big strings and 007 references bolted on.
TV presenter Jenni Falconer highlighted the likeness, tweeting: “Anyone else think #WritingsOntheWall has an Earth Song sound to it in parts?”
Thanking his fans, Sam Smith tweeted, “Reading through all your unbelievable comments”.
As to whether Sam Smith’s theme song for “Spectre” is indeed similar to MJ’s “Earth Song“, one this is clear after his premiere on the radio: fans can no longer wait for the return of James Bond this November. “Today is such a special day for me and I am so grateful to everyone supporting this track xx”. “I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it”. The song they deemed most awful – from one of the movies they deemed most terrible – was Duran Duran’s A View to a Kill.
The song was co-written by Smith and frequent Smith, Disclosure and Clean Bandit collaborator Jimmy Napes.
He said: “It’s a flawless combination of Sam meets Sam. Taking its cue from a moment in the film where Bond sees his name spray-painted on the Memorial Wall of the derelict MI6 headquarters”.
With Smith on a roll in the past months, the initial announcement that he will be taking charge of the new theme song created quite a buzz, and rightly so.
You can’t really blame all concerned for attempting to replicate it with Writing’s on the Wall.
