Jim Mora, UCLA players react to Myles Jack injury
The problem with trying to use multiple players in specific situations is the difficulty of substituting against a high tempo offense like Arizona, and Arizona’s ability to change plays quickly based on the Bruins personnel.
The UCLA Bruins are undefeated through three weeks of football, and will likely miss their dominant linebacker for the rest of the season.
In order for the Bruins to keep their dreams of clinching the highly competitive South Division and winning their first conference championship since 1998 alive, replacing Jack has to be an entire team effort.
“We feel as a program that he has missed a quarter of his season, and he has shown remorse with the actions that he has taken”, Mora said Tuesday.
On the bright side, UCLA has a pretty good defense even without Jack. After three games, the Bruins’ defense is giving up 14 points per contest. He has one interception, which he returned for a touchdown against East Carolina, and four pass breakups in the first three games this year after playing in all 12 games as a freshman in 2014.
“Myles suffered a knee injury and had surgery last night and he’s out for the year”, coach Jim Mora said.
Amusing how things work out.
UCLA’s defensive secondary lost a key piece on Tuesday, but gained one back as well.
Jack was the Pac-12’s offensive and defensive freshman of the year in 2013. He made the victory-clinching interception late in UCLA’s victory over BYU last weekend. Coming into the season, Moreau, a senior, had 109 career tackles.
In any case, with or without stars on their defensive front, expect the Bruins to do nothing less than crash the party. “Coach Mora said, “Next man up, close ranks.” Coaches like to say that.
With the way the Trojans season is going, this week will hopefully be a rebounding one for them as they look to return to normal and maximize their polished playoff potential. Jack had officially moved to inside linebacker in spring practice, but he played quite a bit of weakside linebacker in the past two games, covering slot receivers.
