FC Goa can be champions at ISL season 2: Lucio
Having got the players of his choice this time around and with majority being Brazilians, FC Goa chief coach Zico must have now set his sights on the prestigious ISL crown, while as the kick off time is getting closer, with only 10 days left, the football insane Goans can not wait anymore to watch the samba grove on the stadiums.[NT]. The striker, now with Chennaiyin FC, shared his views on the coming season and what he expects from it in an email chat with The Hindu. “And now there are others too”, says Mumbai City FC forward Andre Moritz, who has returned for the franchise this year. “The Brazilian players are not in the team only because they are Brazilians”.
Brazilian legend Zico, who was instrumental in recommending the pre-season tour for the team so that his boys could achieve high match performance levels, had high praise for the facilities available at Dubai Sports City.
Zico, though, will not miss any of them.
“They are all good players”, Zico said.
I just hope to score as many goals as possible but most importantly help Chennaiyin win the ISL. “That was the incentive for me to come here”.
“We have to play here and I was impressed with the ground that was provided to me for training, we also stayed back because the foreigners need to get accustomed to the conditions here”, Taylor said. The first was about that one particular freekick.
FC Goa, co-owned by Virat Kohli has the legendary Brazilian Zico as coach. “I spoke to Zico and he explained to me the nature of the league how it was and the discussion with him was what made me join this project here at FC Goa”, he said, to queries about how he arrived at the Goa ISL team for Season 2.
Last year, even with the likes of World Cup victor Alessandro Del Piero in the squad Delhi Dynamos failed to live upto the expectations, but the team is battle-ready for the tournament with a mixture of good global stars and Indian youths within their ranks. “It has brought Indian football to the knowledge of the world”, he said at a media event here ahead of the second season beginning October 3.
Zico also said that ultimately the ISL will have to be a full-fledged league similar to their counterparts in other countries with seventh-eight months duration.
“The league is for only three months. Ultimately, India will have to have one league”, he added.
