The Dursley Kangaroo is a wallaby and it’s still on the run
In a freaky tweet at 9.42pm tonight, Saturday, Gloucestershire Constabulary wrote: “Bit of an unusual one”. We have found one!’
When the woman first reported the four-foot animal to police, she showed stunned officers a picture of the crafty creature.
Officers – who were given the wrong information about the marsupial, having initially sought the public’s help in finding the owners of a lost “kangaroo” – say they have no idea where it came from.
And finally: “Not the usual bouncers that we’re interacting with on a Saturday night”.
At midnight officers the kangaroo was still at large. The most noticeable difference between the animals is size: wallabies reach up to 2ft in height, while kangaroos can reach 8ft.
Rich Gillingham, whose garden was searched for the wallaby, said: “That was one of the most freaky evenings of my life”.
‘I was just serving up supper for our Come Dine with Me guests and two coppers walked into our kitchen and asked if they could search our back garden for a kangaroo’.
Police are still appealing for the owner of a wallaby – which they said initially was a kangaroo – which has caused quite a stir in Gloucestershire last night.
But Hartpury College denied that the runaway kangaroo was theirs.
“The animal may be distressed and they are strong and powerful animals so members of the public are advised not to approach it”.
“If there are further sightings of the animal, or if anyone has any knowledge about where this animal has escaped from, please call 101 quoting incident number 462 of 26 September 2015”.
