Cyle Larin: Breaks Rookie Scoring Record
The emphatic response came from Cyle Larin.
The Red Bulls host Brazilian Kaka and Orlando City South Carolina on Friday night at 7 pm at Red Bull Arena n Harrison, New Jersey.
“It’s a night where you feel like everything that can go wrong does”.
“I thought Orlando played very well tonight, very well tonight”, Marsch said. “He repaid my faith in him this evening”.
Larin, the No. 1 selection the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, scored his 12th, 13th and 14th goals of the season against the Red Bulls, setting a new MLS single-season scoring record for rookies. The previous record was set by Damani Ralph in 2003 when he was playing for the Chicago Fire and was able to score a total of 11 times. Cyle Larin scored a hat-trick, setting the MLS rookie goalscoring record in the process. It was all just building up until this game. This team is a good team.
Unlike the Red Bulls, Orlando City is continually fighting for a playoff spot with the club now on the seventh place in the East with 35 points. The game was open with suspect defending from both sides, with the game at 2-1 for the Lions at halftime. “Regardless of what happens, we have Montreal at home and it’s going to be a huge game for us”.
But aiming to spoil the party for the Red Bulls is Orlando City who is riding a two-match winning streak heading to Friday’s matchup.
“We knew that. We prepared for this pressure from the first minute of the game”, Kaká said. “I just want us to continue to move along and tonight was a step backwards for us, but that’s okay”. Klejstan has created the most goals for the Red Bulls, recording 10 assists along with six goals so far this year. Orlando is tied for second-to-last in shots on goal (with Houston Dynamo), and has conceded the third-most fouls in the league, while having received the most fouls against (which means – and it pains me to say it – that maybe the refs haven’t been screwing us all along).
Dax McCarty got Eastern Conference-leading New York back on level terms five minutes later, also with a header, only for 20-year-old Canada forward Larin to restore the visitors’ lead two minutes before half-time with a cool finish from substitute Carlos Rivas’ through-ball.
The Red Bulls finished the match a man down after Matt Miazga was shown a second yellow card in the 77th minute but remain at the top of the conference standings and already assured of a spot in the postseason.
