Jake Gyllenhaal And Benedict Cumberbatch May Electrify The Current Wars
The plan is for Gomez-Rejon to make Current War his next film after directing the Will Smith starred Collateral Beauty, which will shoot in the fall. But now it seems the combination of heavyweights Cumberbatch and Gyllenhaal may well get the project going after all.
Variety has the scoop on this developing title, saying that Cumberbatch and Gyllenhaal are now in negotiations for roles in the feature. Edison, a marvel inventor who invented the motion picture camera and the light bulb, believed that DC (Direct Current) should have been the standard, while Westinghouse was a proponent of AC (Alternating Current).
The Current War takes place in the late-1880s and revolves around power titans Edison and Westinghouse’s battle over the supply of electricity. It is also being said that Alfonso Gomez- Rejon is being considered to come aboard as director of the movie while Timur Bekmambetov will be producing it alongside Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch.
Gyllenhaal is coming off a strong festival season after Everest and Demolition premiered at the Venice and Toronto film festivals, respectively.
Cumberbatch can now be seen in Warner Bros.’ Black Mass.
Gomez-Rejon became a hot commodity after directing this year’s Sundance darling Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.
