National Park Service Offers Free Admission for ‘National Public Lands Day’

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission hosts another free day Saturday, September 26, when day-use visitors will not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks.

Volunteers will lend a hand at more than 100 national parks in 37 states. NPLD 2015 will take place on Saturday, September 26. It was started in 1994 with three sites and 700 volunteers taking part. Since the first NPLD, the event has grown by leaps and bounds.

People who want to spend the day in Theodore Roosevelt National Park can do it for free. More than 20,000 National Park Service employees care for America’s 408 national parks and work with communities across the nation to help preserve local history and create close-to-home recreational opportunities.

Nationwide, the Forest Service has registered more than 174 National Public Lands Day sites across the United States and Puerto Rico.

The focus of this year’s project will be to put some of the finishing touches on the newly constructed Tumalo Historic Canal Trailhead.
