Seahawks come up short again, lose to Rams in opener
In 2013, the Eagles were 8-2 in the games he started.
The Seattle Seahawks lost their opening game of the 2015 season to the St. Louis Rams 34-31 Sunday night. Seahawks rookie wide receiver Tyler Lockett pounced early returning Johnny Hekker’s punt 57-yards for a touchdown in the first quarter, but that was the extent of the damage they would provide. Then Fisher reminded us that his team is now the youngest in the league, again.
But Foles went to work. That play alone lowers the grade at the running back position. Lance Kendricks’ 37-yard touchdown with less than a minute to play sent the game to overtime. Kendricks scored the touchdown that set up the tying extra point. Cary Williams’ strip of Nick Foles and 8-yard return had put Seattle up by a touchdown. In that drive and overtime, he was 6-of-10 for 95 yards. “It should have been a run, whether we scored or not”. Lynch got engulfed by half their defense to stunningly end it. I’m excited that we got him. Their window of time to win another Super Bowl with their current core group of players is shrinking daily, and it’s clear that they need him in the lineup to do so. He didn’t just manage it or anything like that. “It’s been really successful for us for a long time, so we went with it with a real base thought and they played it better than we did”. We don’t want to start like that.
“The guys just finished the game”, Quinn said. It means everything in the world.
“Oh man, that’s big bro”, Austin said. Whether or not they want to admit it, Chancellor’s absence unquestionably contributed to that, but it was clear that there was something very “off” about the Seahawks’ defense and their fractured Legion of Boom. And if he’s going to report this week and play, it would likely happen by Wednesday.
– Carroll reiterated that the final kickoff was supposed to go to about the 25-yard line or so with the hope that an offensive lineman for the Rams would have to field it. He said kicker Steven Hauschka heard the call correctly but simply did not kick it right.
O’Neil: I don’t think so. That’s what’s in your mind. That’s playing with your brothers right there. “From top to bottom, that situation was a time where it presented something that could happen”. But the incomplete pass followed by kicking a field goal on fourth down gave the Cowboys a chance to win and Tony Romo delivered a game-winning 72-yard drive in 1:27. That’s what we have to continue to do.
But the kick was mishit – similar to a golfer chunking a chip shot – and traveled only 15 yards into the arms of St. Louis’ Bradley Marquez.
And after spending all offseason believing – knowing – Marshawn Lynch could gain 1 yard with the game on the line – he got the chance this time but could not.
Greg Zuerlein kicked a 37-yard field goal in overtime and St. Louis survived an 18-point fourth-quarter rush by Seattle.
Highlights of what Seattle coach Pete Carroll had to say on his radio show Monday morning, including comments on Kam Chancellor’s ongoing holdout.
“Our guys gave it everything they had tonight”.
“Will, in my eyes, was a hero (and our players) got an opportunity to listen to him”. They gave it everything they had.
“No, no. We just didn’t execute that”. It’s now a reality that, at least on the surface, Seattle’s defense looks a lot worse without Chancellor out there. He made some similar moves a play later on 2nd-and-10, taking a short pass 11 yards for another first down.
For quite awhile most assumed Kelly traded Foles so he could take Marcus Mariota away from the Tennessee Titans in the draft or in a trade somehow.
