Sam Smith aimed for classic Bond theme
Singer Sam Smith has treated his fans and followers of James Bond franchise to the much-anticipated theme song of “Spectre”, titled “Writing’s On The Walls”. Smith warned all of his Twitter followers across the pond for its release, saying “he’s been dreaming of this moment for a long long time”.
The jury’s out for Sam and James Bond – will it reach number one? I just thought, how incredible that would be for him, and for the family and stuff, to do that theme song. “I just hope people listen to it and think, “That’s Bond”. “If I risk it all / Could you break my fall?” the song continues.
The 23-year-old also added that the movie’s director Sam Mendes had a say over the song’s lyrics and made sure that Bond “didn’t sound weak, that he still sounded powerful”.
Smith told that his goal was to bring “a touch of vulnerability” to Bond, opening the song up emotionally the same way he did for his breakthrough album In the Lonely Hour. But couldn’t Smith work the title in anywhere in his song “The Writing’s on the Wall“.
“With Bond songs you get to be as dramatic as you want”.
But the British crooner, who always wears his heart on his sleeve, can’t help fiddling with the theme of being lovesick. “That’s kind of what we were aiming for”.
Regardless, Smith expressed his gratitude for the immediate support from fans who loved the track.
