Steven Gerrard gets 1st MLS goal as Galaxy top FC Dallas
Dallas would not come undone however, answering the bell in the 35th minute as they took advantage of their blistering speed to get back into the game.
Gerrard said the “most disappointing thing” was allowing Dallas to “get back into the game before halftime, but now the game’s finished, and it’s all about maximum points”. “I know you guys all look at the scoreline, and leave it at that”.
“I think the goal is important for the team. Our team is going to score goals”. “We got a responsibility to deliver as many prizes as possible”.
The LA Galaxy, victor of three of the last four MLS Cup titles, became the first team to reach 50 points when it held on to beat FC Dallas, 3-2, Sunday night at StubHub Center.
The victory moved the Galaxy to the top of the Western Conference standings with 50 points with three games remaining. “It’s not about individuals and tallies and who gets what”.
“I’d prefer to have the points on the board”, Keane said.
“While the Galaxy regained the lead in the Supporters” Shield, just six points separate the top 10 teams in the race with three full weeks to play in the regular season. “You have to win the games in hand”.
Elsewhere, Matias Perez Garcia scored in the 87th minute to lift San Jose past Real Salt Lake 1-0 and close within a point of Portland for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Dos Santos ended the Galaxy’s 290-minute scoring drought just 11 minutes in, converting a cross from Gyasi Zardes during a slick sequence of possession started by Robbie Rogers’ adroit header by the sideline.
After the win, Dos Santos told reporters that the dance was dedicated to Keane’s son Robert. The goal was a result of poor positioning from Donovan Ricketts, who attempted to collect the ball but misjudged the distance between himself and Barrios, which led to an easy goal for Barrios.
Robbie Keane had one of the key opportunities in the second half, but his shot from 18 yards out in the 64th minute hit the crossbar.
