Damian Lewis top choice for new James Bond

A source told the paper: ‘If Daniel Craig leaves, it’s Damian Lewis who will be crowned the new Bond.

The Sunday Mirror reports that the 44-year-old Homeland star has been given “an unofficial nod” that he would be the producer’s first choice to become the new 007 agent.

Predictions about the new James Bond have not stopped pouring-in and fans seem to be enjoying it all. It may not have been Aston Martin, but it definitely featured hot women, guns, eccentric villains and extreme Britishness.

However, despite the ongoing casting speculations, big bosses are reportedly putting the final decision on hold to prioritise Craig’s latest James Bond film.

It’s highly unlikely we’ll know anything for sure until long after Spectre comes out on November 6.

Earlier this year, Daniel implied that November’s Spectre release will be his last.

‘Daniel excels in the role and there is no pressure on him to step down. Producers are convinced it’s a particularly strong 007 movie. “But if he does, people close to Damian have had an unofficial nod he is the No1 choice”.

Damian has also previously expressed his interest to play the character during an interview with Metro back in September 2013.

There has been much speculation about who might take over the role, with Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba’s names rumoured to be in the running. While promoting his 2015 film, Pan, the actor said he is open to the role of James Bond.

For all we know, Daniel may continue with the franchise by being part of the next project as well. “I don’t think there’s an actor on the planet who wouldn’t at least say, ‘Oh, let me have a think about that”.
